Head of Finance Blog - December 2008/January 2009

Assalamu Alaykum,

The past month has been one where FOSIS as an organisation, as well as all Team FOSIS at an individual level, have been concered with the crisis in Gaza and seeking to do our part to support our brothers and sisters in the blockaded and war-stricken strip.

Before I start my finance update on the past month, I'd like to praise the work of two ISocs in particular f or their magnificent campaigns during the Israeli aggression; SOAS ISoc and Oxford University ISoc, although definitely not forgetting the other ISocs up and down the country who have done great work to both spread awareness and support the people of Gaza.

Perhaps the most important decision relating to the FOSIS finances taken during the past month is the National Executive Committee (NEC) decision to enforce a deadline on proposal submissions for the coming term. This is another great stride towardsensuring FOSIS works with professionalism and delivers high quality services.

Now that the deadline has passed, the Finance Committee's role will be that of reviewing these proposals to ensure they are meticulous and as risk-free as possible, and advising committees on where they must revise their proposals.

This is obviously apart from the day to day work of the committee - which any treasurer will be familiar with - however i won't bore you by going through these mostly admin tasks!

Finally I'd like to remind you - the reader - that your thoughts and suggestions are very valuable, so please do not hesitate to contact me on head.finance@fosis.org.uk with any feedback or advice you may have.

Jazakum Allah Khairan, Wassalam

Your Brother,

Obada Sawalha
