Ireland Blog - March 2008

Bismillah,

On the 1st of March the new committee was elected. Ever since we have been busy fulfilling our roles as representatives and supporters of Muslim Students and Islamic Societies.

We held an informal meeting with old and new committee members to build brotherhood and sisterhood among the FOSIS Ireland Chapter Family, as well as to pass on knowledge and strategy.

The committee held its first official meeting in which we went over the history and purpose of FOSIS and the role we have to play in the coming year. I have met with, and plan on continuing to meet with, two or three members of the committee at a time in order to have more focused discussions and concrete results.

The new committee plans on continuing and improving on the Brotherhood and Professionalism theme from the previous committee.

In March, Dr. Azzam Tamimi visited Dublin to give a one-day seminar on the history of Palestine. This event had many Muslim and non-muslim in the audience. Dr. Tamimi did not fail in enlightening us on the historic and current situation of Palestine.

This month, our Grand Islamic Awareness Week, which has a number of Dublin Islamic Societies participating, commenced with a well attended international food festival, and featured speaches, exhibitions, and a debate on the future of Islam in Ireland throughout the week.

The committee is working hard to improve on the Regional Program from last year. In this years Program, which is on the 19 and 20th of April, we are focusing on Islamic Societies dealing with society and the media.

We are also busy planning for next year and thinking big. Please remember us in your duaa and pray for our continued success and that of FOSIS, and that we work only for Allah's pleasure.
