Members Relations - Feb-March 2011

A lot to update on, alhamdulilah, so here goes!

- started the year with delivery of 15,000 Fresher Packs. We produced these in conjunction with UKISOC and had to distribute all over the UK and Ireland, not an easy task! Many thanks go to several people who stayed up late nights to make this all happen.

- the next event was the FOSIS Winter Conference, which took place in Cambridge in December. Cambridge ISoc were our amazing and fantastic hosts and a huge jazakAllah khair to them for their efforts and hard work. All the 120 delegates who came from all across the UK thoroughly enjoyed the event and we were lucky to have with us several scholars, including Mufti Ibn Adam Al-Kawthari and Shaykh Abdal Hakeem Murad address us on many matters of importance. The highlight was no doubt the founder of Islamic Relief and ex-Treasurer of FOSIS Dr Hany el-Banna rounding off the evening with a memorable rendition of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"... you had to be there!

- since the beginning of the year preparations for the next FOSIS Annual Conference (FAC) have been taking place and I have been up to several venues to ascertain their suitability for this summer. We have also been working hard at getting sponsorship proposals ready and getting our marketing and programme structure in place for what will be, insha'Allah, the best event in the Muslim students' calender this year!

- we have also been working on designing new content for the Fresher Packs for 2011. These promise to be one of the highlights of the fresher experience and follow extensive market research earlier this year. Production of the content for our materials is under way and we have begun to source merchandise and seek sponsorship for them.

- one of the new projects we launched this year is Artistic Jihad. This is in response to the large number of Muslim students who find it difficult to get onto the career ladder following study in the arts, and also to help dispel those misconceptions about art that exist in the Muslim community. We've arranged with University of Arts Islamic Society an exhibition in April, following a month long competition to be judged by prominent UK artists to find emerging talent. There has been a lot of interest and insha'Allah promises to be an exceptional project. Go towww.artisticjihad.com for more information.

- working with Br Ameen Umarjee, we've made progress with initiating our alumni network. We've met with several alumni and friends of FOSIS over the past few months and have spent many meetings planning and organising our next steps. Keep your eyes peeled!

- as part of the alumni plans, we arranged an Insight Evening for Corporate Law with Simmons and Simmons. Alhamdulilah this was very well received and attended with nearly 70 people attending from all over the UK an as put by one of the attendees, " I just wanted to thank you for providing us with an opportunity to gain such an honest insight into a city legal career. I have attended a few events held in city law firms but this was the first one to be different and offer frank answers about both the difficulties of rewards and disadvantages of such a challenging career." We plan to have more of these events with different and varied careers coming up soon

- we have also started the FOSIS.dev team, a small group of students studying computer sciences and related disciplines which is looking into using their expertise to create mobile phone applications of use. If you'd like to get involved with this please get in touch at head.membersrelations@fosis.org.uk

That's all folks! Make dua please :)

Aslaamo Alaikum,

Pray all is well

Alhumdolillah we have made some progress with respect to the FOSIS Annual Conference (FAC). First batch of promo will be going out this week. We will be having a slightly different format to FAC; a one day 'public' conference followed by a second 'Team FOSIS' day which will be Isoc focused and based around the AGM. We are working with the University of Nottingham and look forward to what promised to be a great conference. Be sure to mark the dates down in your diary, 19th and 20th of June - University of Nottingham!

We have enlisted the support of Team FOSIS for Freshers Packs 2010-2011, we are in the process of seeking quotes and finding sponsors. Your thoughts, ideas and contribution are most welcome!

With regards to Freshers Packs project, a draft proposal has been drawn up and in the coming weeks the finalised version will be distributed and sent to sponsors. We are looking for keen individuals to come and join the team, so if you are interested please drop me a line!

Pray this year brings even more blessings and successes, may Allah accept us all

Alhumdolillah work towards the FOSIS Annual Conference 2010 is underway. The committee egroup has now been set up and a group of very accomplished bright young Muslims from around the country will be working on the project. We are exploring hosting the conference at three possible venues and in the process of producing a financial proposal for potential donors and sponsors.

A lot of discussion and planning is needed in order to pull off an effective conference so your help and assistance is welcome! We exploring different themes and also looking at bringing new ideas and projects to the conference. Do get in touch!

Members Relations- September 2009

Assalamulaikum
Alhumdolillah for much of August and most of September I have travelling on an Inter-faith Leadership Training Program. My travels have taken my from Africa to the United States and back to the UK and have been an incredibly enriching experience, many lessons I have learnt I wish to implement in my FOSIS work. I have been blogging some of my experiences and you can check them out at www.MuslimsInEngland.com

I have now began the process of putting a team together for the FOSIS Annual Conference (FAC) 2010. We have some interesting ideas but are looking to hear from you too! So please do drop us a line if you have any ideas or would like to be part of the FAC team. We are also beginning to think about the Freshers Packs project for September 2010, although this is quite a way off making some small progress now will hopefully bear fruits by the time the project is delivered.

Much to do and much to say, please keep us in your sincere and noble Duas.
