Midlands Blog- August 2009

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Ramadhan Kareem – may Allah grant you all mercy and forgiveness in this blessed month.

The Midlands committee is now fully functioning alhamdulillah. The past month was mainly used to ensure all committee members were familiar with their roles, as well as introducing some new positions to ensure the midlands region has accessible links to other committees within FOSIS.   We have also given each individual the responsibility of undertaking one or two ISOCs under their wing and being their point of contact in times of ‘FOSIS-need’.  The idea behind this is to ensure that the midlands committee remains accessible to those who it represents and serves.

A fresh committee brings fresh new ideas, discussing how we can best serve those isocs in the midlands region.  We’ve discussed many things, from speaker tours to charity week, from freshers fayres to ISOC 101 training.

Moving forward, the regional committee is now concerned with ensuring  that the midlands ISOCs carry on doing the amazing work they have in the past.  On behalf of FOSIS midlands, we look forward to working with you in the near future inshAllah.

Any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I leave you with the following words of Allah (swt) and His messenger (saws):

"O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, so that you may learn self-restraint.”

Thus, Fasting is a pillar of Islam, our dean and way of life. In writing by Ibrahim Abusharif, here’s a quote that I think explains this quite significantly: “When we fast with heart, we realize that we are in constant and utter need for things outside of ourselves, external to our so-called talents and skills. Dethroned, we realize that we are all needy, a permanent condition that's lost in our billboard world.”

The Prophet (saws) said: "Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and with the hope of reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven."

Wasalam
