North Blog - July 2009

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu,

Alhamdulillah the North committee has been elected and we have an enthusiastic and experienced committee ready to help serve the Islamic societies.  We have already met several times and the committee has been trained and is raring to go.

Our three key priorities as a committee  are :

  • Establishing effective communication channels with Islamic Societies
  • Increasing our Profile
  • Fostering a sense of community in the North.

Our work so far has required us to contact Islamic societies and also brainstorm about what we are going to achieve over the next year. So far all the Islamic societies seem really keen to get involved and work with the North committee. Some of the ideas include hosting two 1 day seminars (like the ones you have probably been to before but much cheaper), a criticial reading/thinking group and we are examining the feasibility of having an Isoc Olympics.  We also want to bring two international speakers around IAW, ensuring that each Isoc in the North is being served and we are currently working on the funding for that. There are vast opportunities for Isocs to work with FOSIS and each other and we need to ensure that we can utilise these to their full potential.

We are just at the planning stages of what we want to achieve and how we intend to go about it. Alhamdulillah I am really looking forward to the year and inshallah the events that we plan to host. If you have any comments, queries or suggestions please email me at north.chair@fosis.org.uk
