President Blog- August 2009

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

As-salâmu 'alaykum wa rahmatuAllâhi wa barakâtuhu,

Brothers and Sisters, I start by praising Allah (SWT) and then sending peace and blessings upon His messenger Muhammad (SAW), the Companions and all the righteous believers until the Day of Judgement.

I pray that this email finds you in a state of good health and emaan!

Before doing anything I want to wish you all a belated Ramadan Mubarek/Kareem! May Allah SWT accept all our acts of worship during this the most blessed of months.

A month has come and gone already and it’s been a busy one as we approach the start of the academic year. Summer is often a good time for consolidation and planning; consolidating on relevant and useful lessons learnt from the year gone by and planning for the year ahead. This year we have in place a scheme started towards the middle of the last academic year which requires committees from across the organisation to submit their plans for the term ahead. We’ve already had many of the committees submit their plans for the first term and it looks incredibly exciting! From training workshops to speaker tours, sisters’ entertainment events to brothers’ sporting tournaments, it looks like it’ll be a busy term! As things become more permanent we will look to place as much of this on the website as possible to keep everyone informed of what’s going on.

It is also during this period of the year that fresher packs are produced and finalised. This year we will be aiming to produce 15,000 packs inshaAllah for distribution across the country. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the brothers and sisters involved in this mammoth task and pray that Allah SWT rewards them immensely. If your Islamic Society needs to order some then get in touch as soon as possible before they run out.

If you are starting university this year, perhaps moving away from home for the first time or managing your own finances for the first time, if you have any worries or concerns please feel free to get in touch. Whatever the challenge, it is likely that someone in this organisation would’ve faced it and could perhaps share some helpful tips!

I pray that the first few weeks of university go well for you all, please do get in touch if we can be of any assistance and keep your eyes peeled for events happening in your regions!

A statement of the great scholar Ibnul-Qayyim I found touching and thought I’d share:

“Nothing brings Allaah’s blessings and prevents His punishment than obeying Him, moving closer to Him through acts of Ibaadah and being kind to His creatures.”

Wa- salâmu 'alaykum wa rahmatuAllâhi wa barakâtuhu

Your brother,

 Faisal Hanjra
