President Blog- September 2009

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

As-salâmu 'alaykum wa rahmatuAllâhi wa barakâtuhu,

Brothers and Sisters, I start by praising Allah (SWT) and then sending peace and blessings upon His messenger Muhammad (SAW), the Companions and all the righteous believers until the Day of Judgement.
I pray that this email finds you in a state of good health and emaan!

The month of Ramadaan has come and gone, I pray that Allah SWT accepts all of our acts of worship and sacrifice during the month and a very belated Eid Mubarek to you all!

This month has been incredibly busy for FOSIS, Islamic Societies and Student Unions across the country! With returning students gearing up for their second and third years and with new students coming onto campus there was so much to do and so much alhamdullilah has been done. We have over the last month, by the permission of Allah, distributed approximately 15,000 fresher packs and a big thanks goes to all those who’ve worked so hard to deliver this project. Please do get in touch with any feedback regarding the quality of our fresher packs and any tips on how to improve for the next year.

Meanwhile committees across the organisation are moving from the training and planning to implementation. We have rolled out training courses in different regions for Islamic Society committees via our ISOC 101 training programmes, do keep an eye out for a programme coming to a campus near you and drop us a line if you want to attend. On the weekend of the 16th Oct we have a big FOSIS camp taking place for all members of team FOSIS, an opportunity for students to come together to take part in various activities and to get to know one another. During this month we also have the famous charity week taking place in conjunction with ULU ISoc and Islamic Relief. Last year across the country we managed to raise, by the permission of Allah, over a staggering £300,000 for charity, inshaAllah we aim to surpass that this year, and we need each and every single one of you to do it!

On the political front we’ll be looking to get in touch with Islamic Societies to encourage them to get more involved in their local Student Unions, giving hints and tips of how to best make use of time at university and how to get politically involved and engaged with the various local structures. These are just some of the activities going on, with so much more on the cards do get in touch if you’re interested, keep a close eye on our website where we’ll be posting event details!

A gentle reminder to myself and then you: The Messenger of Allâh (SAW) said, "Serve your mother for Paradise lies under her feet."

Wa- salâmu 'alaykum wa rahmatuAllâhi wa barakâtuhu
