Scotland Blog - December 2008/January 2009

Asalamoalaikum

Hope you are all in the best of Iman and health.

The past two months have unfortunately been dominated by the events in Gaza and the massacre of our brothers and sisters. I begin by asking that you all take a moment to please make Dua that Allah (swt) grants them patience and relieves them of their pain in this life and in the hereafter.

FOSIS Scotland has been involved in the unified movement in Scotland along with many Scottish organisations to condemn Israeli attacks and demand they are halted. We have taken part in the meetings to organise protests and rallies and I was also invited to speak at a rally organised by the Stop the War Coalition on behalf of FOSIS Scotland. Looking to the immediate future we are hoping to help Isocs have stalls on campus, have movie nights to raise awareness, and host media workshops specifically looking at the response of the media to the current crisis.

Other projects are also being worked on, with IAWs approaching FOSIS Scotland is hosting a IAW Training Day in Glasgow next Saturday with workshops on events management, publicity and giving Dawah. The residential camp in collaboration with Scottish Islamic Foundation is inshAllah pencilled in for 13th-15th Feb. Planning is underway for brothers and sisters national sports tournaments, and a round off event at the end of the year hoping to bring together all the Isocs and host our AGM.

It has been a great learning curve for our committee so far this year and inshAllah we hope to have a good second term with plenty in store to look forward to. Pray that Allah keeps our intentions pure and places blessing in our time and efforts.

Walaikumasalam
