VP Training & HR Blog- August 2009

Assalamulaikum my dear brothers and sisters in Islam

I begin in the name of Allah (swt) the most merciful the beneficent.

Firstly I would like to begin by saying Ramadan Karim to you and your families. May Allah (swt) reward you all and shower His (swt) mercy and blessings upon you during this blessed month.

This month the THR committee has worked to clarify our overall aims, objectives, and mission statement. The purpose of this is to set a clear direction for the committee and also to make sure that our aims and objectives meet the committee and national committee’s priorities for the year. Through this we have also been working on our project proposals and year plans which we submitted to the NEC, including:

-  Leadership course (Part 1/2)
-  Team FOSIS away weekend (Part 1/2)
-  Mualim Project

Alhumdulillah, from the project proposals the THR core committee have been working setting the foundations for the committee and also trying to secure some finances/sponsorship for the committee.

Sr Sabeen mashAllah has been working very hard on the recruitment and sacred science project (which they had their first online lecture of the year) and also creating an identity of the committee through having a logo (designed by br Shamil) as well as preparing content for the website for the THR web page on the FOSIS website in conjunction with br Ajmal. The core committee also had an online meeting to allocate specific duties that needed to be overlooked in the committee. MashAllah both br Ajmal and sr Marriam have been working hard within their roles and also have been working to clarify remits and assigning roles to other member in the committee. One such example is finding recruits for the team FOSIS camp inshAllah. If all the projects are approved we can get started on organising the events and holding events for the team FOSIS personnel inshAllah with the intention to assist an effective running of individual committees and FOSIS holistically.

Other things which we have been focussing on this month is the Governance review set up by br Adham and also working on team FOSIS documents to assist committee heads in understanding how to support their committee members by consulting them through a review process. Some committees have asked for support and this has mainly come from ISCC committee in which I attended one of the regional committee trainings in order to give them an introduction to FOSIS. In that meeting we ascertained a willingness to attend team FOSIS events and also they would find leadership training sessions of use.

This month has focussed on planning and inshAllah from this we hope to move onto implementation of the projects we pray that we can assist the work of team FOSIS and support them in their work.

Wasalam

A hadith I wanted to share with you all during this beautiful month of Ramadan:

Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported Allaah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying: Allaah, the Exalted and Majestic, said: “Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting. It is (exclusively) meant for Me and I (alone) will reward it. Fasting is a shield. When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting. By Him, in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to Allaah on the Day of judgment than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts has two (occasions) of joy, one when he breaks the fast he is glad with the breaking of (the fast) and one when he meets his Lord he is glad with his fast.”(Sahih Muslim)
