Vice President Blog - February 2008

Asalaamu alikum wa rahmatAllah

I pray that all is well and each of us are preparing for our last moments. In that, it is said you will die based upon how you live and you will be resurrected based upon how to die. We ask Allah to grant us a good ending. Regarding my role as VP it has again focused on two issues the most significant has been the constitution and also the Muslim Graduates. With regards to the constitution we have, as an executive, met with Brother Aamer Naeem who conducted a training day with us to look at the vision for FOSIS and identify the key issues that we face and potential solutions. A smaller group spent sometime with him previously to discuss the organisational structure which was followed by a meeting with the NMC (national management committee).

Overall I feel the process that we undertook with regards to changing the constitution has been appropriate in allowing us an opportunity to rethink how we work, resulting in some great ideas being explored which I hope will help develop the future of FOSIS. Where does this leave the constitution and what are the next steps? A draft version of the constitution and a handbook is currently being completed. I also met with brother Aamer on another occasion to discuss more specific information about both documents and he provided invaluable advice for which I pray and ask you to pray that Allah rewards him. I also hoped to organise a meeting with the ISocs to present the document although due to the timing of the year it may not happen and be replaced with an online questionnaire. If you have any thoughts on this please do share them with me. I would also hope that you participate in giving your feedback to the ideas we send to you. I invite you to do this and involve other members of your committee, to be critical and to ask key questions like what does this mean for your ISoc and how can we all benefit.

InshAllah there has been some slow progress on the Muslim Graduate event which I think is mainly to do with communication problems. I hope we can resolve this soon. Although a clearer plan of the programme and awards has been developed and so we hope advertisement will begin this in March. Lastly we the elections coming up in your Islamic Societies and FOSIS, I encourage you to stand to serve your sisters and brothers. Please contact me if I can be of any help.
I ask you all to make dua for me and our work that Allah gives us tawfeeq.

Regards
