Isoc 101: Serving your mini-Ummah

“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose Wisely.”

Your Isoc is no doubt subject to change. With people entering and leaving, the community around you growing and expanding, and continuous events occurring on the national and local scene, your Isoc is affected by many factors and variables that have the potential to make their mark on the way things run. But with change…do you opt for growth? And how does growth come about? Well… we advise you to choose wisely. We advise you to choose FOSIS.

So what can FOSIS do for you?

Provide training and direction to your Isoc of course. FOSIS has been on the scene since 1963, witnessing the growth of the Isoc world and in touch with Isoc’s up and down the country on issues ranging from Islam Awareness and general Isoc advice to student union’s and prayer rooms. We have also been providing training for a number of years as well having organised courses on leadership with well known figures such as Professor Rafik Beekun. As a result of years of experience, FOSIS training can only provide you with expertise, professionalism and enlightment.

This year we have joined with ProductiveMuslim.com to provide you with a focussed and structured programme designed to explore a range of issues and skills including organisational and personal development to bring out the best in your Isoc under the title of:

Mohammed provides various resources and advice on a broad range of topics including becoming an executive, team leadership skills, communication, and Islamic tips on management. He joined hands with FOSIS to focus on Isoc executives in order to "help elevate their duties into a form of worship rather than simple an activity for a student society".

An encyclopeadia of the isoc world, Zahid was the previous FOSIS President, vice president and Islamic societies head. He has been within the Isoc world for around ten years, and has been heavily involved in FOSIS. FOSIS can also provide your Isoc with other forms of training. This year a very successful Islam Awareness Training was delivered to Isoc’s in London covering pre-planning, the psychology of rapport, building a team, finances, resources, external relations and other related topics. A similar workshop was delivered in Scotland which also focussed on planning and publicity. Case Studies were also used in both.

In addition, FOSIS can offer tailored training for your Isoc, depending on what you would like, whether that’s general Isoc training or to help you sit back and analyse the current situation of your Isoc. In addition, various committees within FOSIS can deliver training according to their speciality. The SAC committee can deliver training on SU and related topics and the media committee on media. For more information get in touch with your regional committee.

And Finally…

We leave you with words of wisdom from our beloved prophet:

The prophet pbuh said "wisdom is the property of the believer, so wherever he finds it he has a better right to it". He, pbuh, also said "Go back to your people and teach them."

With that in mind, we invite you to attend our ISOC 101 training events and to get in touch with us if you have any queries regarding training… arguably one of the best legacies you could ever impart to your Isoc.
