Head of Services Blog - November 2008

Asalamualaikum,

Alhamdulillah the services committee in conjunction with ISC delivered a successful tour with Br James Yusuf Yee. He is the former US Army Muslim Chaplain of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and has authored the book entitled "For God And Country, Faith and Patriotism Under Fire." His story includes his own personal struggle for justice after being wrongly accused of spying, espionage and aiding the terrorist enemy. Eventually cleared of all criminal charges, Chaplain Yee gained a masters degree in International Relations. Br Yusuf agreed to deliver a speaker tour with FOSIS from November 12th to Nov 19th 2008. The ISOCS involved were Oxford, Nottingham Trent, Warwick, Edinburgh, Strathclyde, Dundee, Sheffield and Leeds. Overall the feedback from the ISOCS was positive. The speaker was also pleased with the results.

We have been at hand to provide ISOCS with contact details for different speakers and scholars. Some committee members have also been involved with delivering Charity week in the North. We have plans to inshallah deliver three more speaker tours in the second semester as well as two dawah training weekends. These projects we intend to deliver over February and March as most ISOCS hold their Islamic awareness weeks during this time period. We will also inshallah be delivering a deen intensive course in the North. In preparation for these projects, this semester we have been communicating our plans with relevant scholars who we will be working with and also securing the finances. The next stage is to confirm ISOCS with ISC.
