Muslim Student Survey

Muslim students in universities across England are being asked to take part in a  survey to provide an accurate picture of their experiences on campus.

The Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS) have worked with the National Union of Students (NUS) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (the government department responsible for universities) to develop the survey which will help us to  represent the interests of students and promote cohesion and tolerance on campus.  Questions focus on students’ needs, their views on important issues, experiences of discrimination and mixing with other students.

A survey of students from all backgrounds is also taking place so that the views of all students can be compared.

We encourage all students contacted about the study to take part in the online survey – the success of the study depends on students taking part. The survey is being conducted by NatCen (National Centre for Social Research), an independent research organisation.  The survey is anonymous and confidential.

Talking about the importance of the survey, Faisal Hanjra, FOSIS President said,

“Assalamualaykum. More than ever before, it is important for all sectors of society to hear the real voice of Muslim students. This survey, 'Amplifying the Voice of Muslim Students', aims to do just that - diverse Muslim students on the grassroots with confidence providing their views on issues from participation to discrimination, prayer rooms to extremism.

Accurate, authoritative and robust research is needed more than ever today for Muslim students to challenge misperceptions and doubt, and to represent us for who we really are. Thank you for participating and we hope you find the experience valuable."
