FOSIS Disappointment at Conviction of ‘Lyrical Terrorist’

Monday, 12 November 2007 10:47
The Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS) in the UK and Eire today raised concerns around the recent conviction of Samina Malik under anti-terror legislation.

Faisal Hanjra, spokesman for FOSIS, said today, “Here was a girl who had did not have any links to any terrorist, she did not have any material which suggested that she was planning to carry out a terrorist attack or that she had the capability of executing one. Her only crime was to write some poems and possess some books. Branding a terrorist, or a potential terrorist, based upon such frail evidence, is both shocking and unacceptable. We all must be very worried about the kind of message this conviction sends out.”

FOSIS calls for an urgent review of the current anti-terror legislation which continues to marginalise and alienate the Muslim community.
